The MBASolvay Alumni Day includes:

  • A high level conference on the topic of "Global Warming: Challenges and Opportunities for Careers in Business”
    The conference will focus on the corporate responses to global warming, and the challenges and new opportunities raised for MBA careers. It will include interventions and presentations by Suez, our main sponsor, BCG, our knowledge partner, and the guest speaker from Futureproof/ed.
  • An alumni panel discussion, composed of alumni with a proven track record on the topic, will present and discuss their experiences.
    The panel discussion of six alumni of the MBASolvay with career experience on the topic, Patrick Maio (PT2004), Sergio Barbarino (PT2004), Patrizia Poggi (FT2005),Marista Fey (FT2005), Teis Hansen (FT2000), Elke Robbrecht (FT2004) will be facilitated by Anthony Brenninkmeijer (MBAFT2004).
  • Parallel sessions of master classes, managed by the MBASolvay Faculty
    Participants in the conference will be divided into groups and will take part in one of the three “master-classes” facilitated by the MBASolvay Faculty, looking at different aspects of the topic and analyzing case-studies in the areas of marketing, finance and social responsibility.
  • The MBASolvay Graduation Gala
    The day will be rounded off with the MBASolvay Graduating Class GALA, celebrating the end of the academic year. Enjoy a wonderful night with the MBASolvay community, kicking off at 19.00 with a welcome cocktail, followed by a dinner-party.

Speakers

Serge de Gheldere, Ceo, FUTUREPROOF/ED
Serge de Gheldere (1967) is a design engineer, trained as an electro-mechanical engineer in Groep T Engineering School, Leuven (B) with a focus on materials technology and product design, and as a master in polymer and composites engineering at the KU Leuven (B). He worked as a product development engineer for Baxter R&D Europe for 7 years. In 2000 Serge founded Futureproof/ed, a sustainable design consultancy based on one central thought: mainstreaming sustainability. In 2006, Serge was part of a select group of individuals personally trained by Al Gore to become a global warming presenter. Serge is a guest professor at Group T University College.

Xavier Votron, Central Director, SUEZ
Xavier Votron (1952) as Degrees in Electrical Engineering (Catholic University of Louvain, 1975) and Nuclear Science & Radioprotection (idem, 1976). He has 30 years of career in the energy sector, within what would become the Suez group. Since April 2006, he is Central Director SUEZ, in charge of promoting technological innovation and renewable energies. 

Yvan Jansen, Senior Partner & Managing Director, The Boston Consulting Group
Yvan Jansen is a Senior Partner and Managing Director of BCG based in Brussels. He studied Law at Leuven (KUL) before getting his Masters Degree in Economics at Louvain (UCL) and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Yvan is a core member of BCG's European Energy practice. Throughout the years, he led dozens of projects in gas, electricity, renewable energy and sustainability. He initiated BCG’s report, "Keeping the Lights On: Navigating choices in European Power Generation" (2003). He was a speaker at the 2004 Eurelectric Annual Convention, addressing the Executive Forum on the future business structure for the electricity and gas industry. He is today an expert to the High Level Group (HLG) on Competitiveness, Energy and the Environment at the EU.

Anthony Brenninkmeijer (MBA FT2004), Partner HINICIO
Anthony Brenninkmeijer joined Hinicio, consultants in renewable energy projects, in 2007 as a partner in charge of leading the organization growth in Europe. Brenninkmeijer is a 38-year old Dutchman, MBA graduate from Solvay Business School. Anthony has been the president of the MBA alumni association and recently also vice president of the Solvay business school alumni association. Before joining Hinicio Brenninkmeijer spent 10 years focusing his career on innovation management, process and organisation optimisation with global retailer C&A, later Business Inventions, a start-up he created, and lately as a business advisor with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Belgium.

Patrick Maio, (MBA PT2004), Managing Partner, HINICIO
Patrick Maio is an electrical engineer graduate from Ecole Centrale d’Electronique in Paris, France, and an MBA alumnus from Solvay Business School. Over the last 10 years Maio developed extensive experience and expertise in management consulting assignments in sustainable energies and transport, delivering and leading projects across Europe, Japan, USA and North Africa. After working for Ernst&Young and Alcatel (1996-2006), in 2006 he created Hinicio, a Brussels-based management consulting firm, where he is the managing partner. In 2007, Hinicio established a presence in Latin America under Patrick’s leadership.

Sergio Barbarino (MBA PT2004), Principal Engineer, P&G
Sergio Barbarino is a Principal Engineer of Procter & Gamble Research & Development organization. He is the Technical Leader of the Process Breakthrough Organization in the P&G European Innovation Center based in Brussels. Sergio has created in 2007 the first group of Logistic R&D within Procter & Gamble. He has been Socio-Economic Vice Chair of the European Intermodal Research Advisory Council and is the P&G Project Manager for 2 European Research Consortia in Logistic research: Freightwise and Moses. Sergio has developed the manufacturing Processes of many well known P&G Brands (e.g. Mr. Proper, Antikal,) And has been until recently the chief designer for P&G Innovative Liquid Manufacturing systems for developing markets.

Patrizia Poggi (MBA FT2005), Project Officer, European Commission
Patrizia Poggi works at the DG Research, Sustainable Development of the European Commission. She studied at the School of Advanced International Studies and obtained her MBA Diploma at Solvay in 2005. Patrizia has seven years experience in project management at the World Bank, and then started working in the DG Research, Environment and Sustainable Development at the European Commission, having global warming in her portfolio.

Marista Fey, (FT 2005), Technical Support Manager, Sasol Chevron
Marista Fey is a Technical Support Manager with Sasol Chevron, a joint venture charged with building a global GTL business. Since 2007 Marista is responsible for the development and execution of Sasol Chevron's technology strategy with its main focus on supporting the development of new business opportunities through reducing the total cost of ownership of Gas to Liquids ventures. In the early developmental phases of projects the focus is on interpreting business requirements and delivering bespoke engineering packages. Marista has extensive experience in the refining industry and worked as technical manager and chemical engineer at the South African oil company Sasol for over ten years.

Teis Hansen (MBA FT2000), Director Operations, A.P.Moller - Maersk Group

Elke Robbrecht Market Analyst, Risk Asset Liabaility Management, Electrabel
Elke Robbrecht is a civil engineer graduated from VUB (2000) and an MBA Alumnus from Solvay Business School (2004). She is now Market Analyst, Risk Asset Liability Management at Electrabel, since 2007. She is managing international energy investment and M&A projects, providing energy market knowledge and assessing the impact of strategic risks on the company’s projects and portfolio, developing future energy market and pricing scenarios and managing and analysing European green energy projects. Before working in Electrabel, she worked in a Leadership Development Program at General Electric Energy in Europe and US (2004-2007) and as Project Engineer at Tractebel Engineering in Brussels (2000 - 2003).
